North Berwick in Bloom, supported by East Lothian Council through the Civic Pride Fund, commissioned Craig Inglis, the founder of Tranent-based FBS Metalworks, to produce an original new landmark for the busy town centre.
The finished product - a 2.5 metre diameter seat - has an organic, flowing look to it. Steel vines with countless "leaves" wrap around three circular plaques reminiscent of ships' portholes and finish by gripping an irregular top rail representing ocean waves.
Client verdict? "It looks great. Everyone is really delighted with what Craig has produced and it is going to be a real feature of the town centre for many years to come," said Rosie Oberlander, Chair of North Berwick in Bloom.

Spiral Staircase - "The problem with steel spiral stairs is that they tend to be noisy to walk up and down, and they tend to be springy which can be slightly disconcerting.
"Craig Inglis had to design the steel sections and welding to the engineer's satisfaction, and to try to resolve the above problems. Access was poor in that all had to be able to pass through a standard door opening.
"Craig made the whole structure sufficiently stiff and with treads formed as trays filled with concrete. The result is excellent with no noise or movement when walking up or down the stairs.
"Not only was the final product first class, but Craig was excellent at co-ordinating his work with the contractor executing all the alterations to the cottage and his price was very reasonable.
"I will certainly be asking Craig to price for future projects I may be organising." - Allen Angus, of Angus Chartered Surveyors, North Berwick.
Gates and Railings - "I had resisted the idea of replacing our ageing wooden fence and gate with steel, imagining it would be either too stark and industrial-looking or too full of over-fussy curly bits.
"I was first taken by Craig's enthusiasm and obvious desire to understand where I was coming from. We decided that there had to be sweeping curves in the top line of and minimalist twin squares at their centre.
"The result was a unique, stylish design which Craig illustrated with clean, professional sketches. Seeing it on paper, I was sold. Installation followed shortly afterwards, bang on schedule and at the very reasonable price we had agreed.
"Friends and neighbours have admired the finished article, saying that its hint of art deco styling fits perfectly with our old bungalow and actually enhances its appearance.
"I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Craig and his team for their professionalism all the way through the project from concept to completion." - Jim McGhee, East Lothian
Berwick Law Whalebone Arch - 613 ft above the East Lothian town of North Berwick, a whale jawbone has been a prominent landmark since 1709.
The last one, installed in 1933, collapsed in 2005 after rotting away. On 26 June 2008, a fibreglass replica was airlifted into place and FBS Metalworks provided the steel supports which give it the strength to stand the test of time and weather.
"I have to thank Craig and his team for their part in this important project for East Lothian. The steel supporting structure was discreet yet strong and was installed as promised and on time .
"In a significant public project like this, involving such a historic and prominent landmark, it was critical that the many people and interests involved worked in a closely co-ordinated way.
"In this regard too, FBS Metalworks displayed true professionalism and flexibility to dovetail into the overall project.
"We are happy to recommend Craig and his team and look forward to working with them again in the future." - East Lothian Council
Historic Provost Lamp Restoration - "When I decided to embark on a newbuild project I wanted the lamp to come with me but it neededa serious makeover. Most of the lamp head was dilapidated and some elements were missing.
"I really didn't know where to start but friends suggested I run this past Craig Inglis at FBS Metalworks. Craig was delighted to take on this challenge and quickly came up with designs to restore the lamp to its former glory.
"No-one could've forewarned us that the lamp was buried at least a metre underground - it took a team of guys to lift the lamp and a special pickup to remove it from its current site to Craig's workshop for restoration.
"I'm really delighted with the end result - its functional, classy and definitely built to last - thanks Craig for a superb job !" - private client, East Lothian.
