Fight Against Time
Without proper protection most exposed metals will corrode over the years. That's why FBS Metalworks have brought together a battery of weapons in the fight against time.
By extending the life of new metal through galvanising and powder coating we can add significant value.
By giving new life to old metal by shot-blasting, re-construction, galvanising and powder coating we can save the expense of replacement.
It's a case of Protect or Restore.
Protect - Galvanising/Coating
FBS Metalworks have invested in Thermal Galvanising, a modern, clean form of the traditional process which encases ferrous metal within a protective skin of zinc.
Our process essentially involves spraying zinc coating directly on to the sound metal surface and building up a consistent layer of protection.
The process takes place within a special containment chamber which, at 4m by 3m, can accommodate treatments on larger items such as gates and railings, exterior construction steelwork or farm equipment.
But it is also set up to efficiently handle speedy production-line processing of small components for any application.
And to give a quality long-lasting finish, a paint powder coating is the ideal final treatment.
Restore - Shotblasting
Also within our spacious East Lothian base we have a 6m by 4m Shotblasting Room capable of handling just about any size of job, from street furniture to agricultural equipment.
Shotblasting - typically known as sandblasting, gritblasting or beadblasting - is a long-established technique proven to remove years of decay. With sound metal revealed, new protection can safely be applied to give many more years of useful service.
As an example of the work undertaken by our steel restoration team, this Provost lamp-post was a worthy challenge.
The substantial lamp standard came up a beautifully but the lamp-head atop the standard was just too far gone. Again however, the use of modern materials and the patience to painstakingly recreate the original design from only skeletal remains resulted in an impressive 21st century solution.
FBS founder Craig Inglis explained: "The client called us and asked if there was anything we could do to save this much-loved item. We were able to shotblast and powder coat it but the decorative headpiece was beyond repair."
